Welcome to Victorian Run Away in Africa. A mini fashion story inspired by the one and only Nancy Cunard. A wonderfully brave and inquisitive woman who broke boundaries of Victorian social etiquette.
Writer, heiress and political activist, Cunard was born into British upper class however strongly rejected her family's values and spent the majority of her life fighting racism and fascism.
Cunards style heavily consisted of natural hand crafted wood, bone and ivory bangles. Materials used by the natives of African culture.
She became a muse to some of the 20th century's most distinguished writers and artists, including Aldous Huxley, Ezra Pound and Louis Aragon, and today she's ours.

After careful consideration we selected Wendy Bevans photography to inspire our shoot. Wanting to keep the images neutral, we've taken aspects such as the blurred effects and some composition styles rather than the specs of faded colour.

Potential Shoot Locations

Shaka Zulu, Camden Town

We thought this would be an ideal location, because of the theme and tribal atmosphere here. We enquired about using the space, but sadly received no reply!

Studio Space

However, after realising the effects of dim lighting and shadow projections we desired for our shoot we decided studio space would be effective and comfortable as we were free and able to play around with ideas/props/lighting without pressure external pressure! To allow for our creative minds to flow!
